Family Services Program

PCFC provides access to high-quality, affordable club soccer for low-income, under-resourced, and marginalized youth, and we do it differently than any other club in the nation.

Our “whole child” approach provides young people with competitive athletic training and wraparound services that include nutritional provisions, social-emotional care, mentorship, education support, and community referrals for the whole family.

Working together, PCFC participants stay physically and emotionally healthy, build confidence, plan for the future, and experience belonging.

Even if a program covers the full cost of participation, we must provide the supplemental support that many families need in order for their child to engage… an effective strategy will include wraparound services for the entire family.

Program History

PCFC piloted an informal wraparound services program in 2020 in response to the long-term pandemic impacts that are affecting the youth and families we serve, almost all of whom identify as low-income.

Since May of 2020, we’ve distributed over 41,000 lbs of food, served 2,219 individuals with fresh, culturally relevant food and distributed $10,300 in zero-interest microloans.

The development of a more permanent Family Services Program began in 2022 and is gaining traction quickly. As always, we listen carefully to our community members and rely on them to let us know what they need.

FUTURE PLANS

By the end of 2024, we intend to serve at least 250 youth participants and 875 family members with the following support services:

  • Case Management* - Family-centered needs assessment and planning

  • Nutritional Provisions - Food on the Field program, Food Pantry program

  • Educational Support - College Bound Day - partnership with Middlebury College

  • Social Emotional Care - Trained coach and peer mentoring

  • Referral Network - Connect Oregon coordinated services support

    * PCFC recently formalized a partnership with Portland State University’s Social Work Field Placement Program. We have a master’s level intern working closely with our team to develop a family-centered case management system.
